Three figure studies for Menzel's illustrations for Heinrich von Kleist's comedy "The Broken Jug", published by A. Hofmann & Co., Berlin 1877. The sheet combines three preliminary drawings of male characters in the play: Walter as bowing figure, repeated in respective posture on tailpiece of printed edition; the bailiff from act 4 in lower left, lower right with a first idea of the figure of the young Ruprecht. [FS].
