Monogrammed in lower center. On wove paper. 24.8 x 14.8 cm (9.7 x 5.8 in) , size of sheet (left margin with narrow rectangular cutout to the sheet's center).
Three figure studies for Menzel's illustrations for Heinrich von Kleist's comedy "The Broken Jug", published by A. Hofmann & Co., Berlin 1877. The sheet combines three preliminary drawings of male characters in the play: Walter as bowing figure, repeated in respective posture on tailpiece of printed edition; the bailiff from act 4 in lower left, lower right with a first idea of the figure of the young Ruprecht.
