Private collection, Copenhagen, Denmark. Acquired 1965 in Ramié's workshop in Vallauris and in the same family?s possession ever since. The vase "Tripode" from 1951 is among Pablo Picasso's greatest, rarest - and most sculptural - ceramic works. From the late 1940s and throughout the 1960s the artist worked regularly at the potter couple Suzanne and Georges Ramié?s workshop in Vallauris, France. In 1950 Suzanne Ramié created a vase in an original form, which the "Tripode" was subsequently based upon. Pablo Picasso further developed the idea, and in his clear characteristic style he decorated the vase with his girlfriend and muse Francoise Gilot?s face. In March 2015
Sotheby's in London held the auction "Important Ceramics by Pablo Picasso" with a wide and representative selection of 147 ceramics. A version of the vase was included and sold at that auction as an absolute major work.
