Robert Rauschenberg
Posse Stir (Galvanic Suite)
1989.
Mixed media. Acrylic and lacquer on galvanized steel.
Signed and dated in lower right. Inscribed with the work number "89.61" on the reverse. 123.5 x 306 cm (48.6 x 120.4 in), incl. the artist frame.
The integrated color silkscreens are based on the artist"s photographs: In the top left, the zig-zag pattern of steps can be seen in a bright cobalt blue, which gains a highly abstract character through the horizontal arrangement of the motif. The triangular shape of the resulting pattern is repeated in the triangular marking of the shuffleboard shown below. This strict geometry finds a strong counterpoint in the energetic brushstrokes on the right-hand side. [JS].
