In the catalogue for the estate sale in January, 1906 of the contents of William Trost Richards" studio, three works are listed whose titles allude to the Isle of Sark: Derrible Bay, Sark; The Coulee, Sark (likely a typographical error referring to the Coupee) , and Sark. Since all three compositions are of the same size as the present work, and none are reproduced, it is unclear whether this piece is one of the three included in the sale.
