Walter Koschatzky, Rudolf von Alt, Salzburg 1976, 2nd edition 53/10. Maren Gröning, Rudolf von Alt, Katalog 437. Exhibition Albertina, Ed. Marie Luise Sternath, Vienna 2005, p. 218. From a series of views which Alt executed between 1854 and 1858: A few years earlier Alt, who had achieved a reputation as a painter of architecture and interiors, was called to the estate of the family of Count Longueval-Bouquoy in Rosenberg in Bohemia in order to make a big series of vedutas (30 interiors and 5 exterior views) of the large castle which was built from 1840 to 1857 by Johann Georg von Bouquoy. Alt was occupied with this task from 1853 to 1858. For him the sojourn was particularly rewardable because he could not avoid being occupied with the splendour of the ancient furniture, precious weapons, vessels und jugs on the estate. He was impressed by the generous lifestyle of his commissioner and of his taste in the Neogothic style at the majestic site next to Moldova river”.
