• Fixed in frame, not examined out of the frame
• The present work was painted at a crossroads in Jawlensky"s artistic career
• The expressive colours and lively brushwork clearly display the influence of Van Gogh
• The impressions and influences gathered during his travels to Bretagne and Paris around 1905/1906 and his meeting with Matisse are also echoed in this work
This work was originally painted on both sides, with the other side painted with the work “Stilleben mit Figur, Früchten und Landschaft” (“Still life with figure, fruit and landscape”) , from around 1909/1910 (CR 2346). The two halves were separated in 1960. With a confirmation of authenticity from the Alexej von Jawlensky-Archiv S.A., Locarno, dated 28.10.2004. This work will be included in Alexej von Jawlensky"s Catalogue Raisonné.
