Cavaliere Cassiano dal Pozzo (1588-1657), by circa 1625, and by descent (still recorded in the dal Pozzo family inventory of 1740, but absent by the time of the estate inventory of Maria Laura dal Pozzo Boccapaduli, Rome, in 1771). (Possibly) M. Bonneville, Paris, 1840 (according to A. Blunt's reading of an inscription on the stretcher, loc. cit.). Rubin Lipchitz, brother of the sculptor, Jacques Lipchitz (1891-1973), who bought it from a dealer who said that the picture came from England. with Agnew's, London, 1979, from whom acquired by the present owner.
