Description

Pablo PICASSO (1881-1973)

Presumed portrait of Paul Bergerot at the age of one, 1903 Pencil drawing, signed and dedicated lower left “to Paul, Picasso”. 23.5 x 18 cm On the back on a cartridge: “Paul Bergerot at one year old, graphite portrait by Pablo Picasso, 1903” “I intended this drawing by Pablo Picasso for Michel Bergerot. It will be given to him upon my death. M Bergerot» A certificate of authenticity from Madame Maya Widmaier-Picasso will be given to the buyer. During 1903, Picasso focused mainly on portraits: children, old people, maternity or family. His models are often his friends Luis Viloro, Sebastià Junyer-Vidal, the Soler family, Angel Fernandez de Soto, ... According to Zervos, he tries "to penetrate the human mystery." Our drawing, all realism and spontaneity, has certainly been made in front of the model. Other childish representations executed in 1903 suggest a resemblance to little Paul Bergerot: Portrait of a child, Zervos (Vol.VI, n°528) -Head of a child, Zervos (Vol. XXI, n°402) -Head child, Zervos, (Vol. XXII, n°32)
