"The choice of the ellipse is partly random and partly a result of some of my experiences. [..] I always loved this avoid shape and even if I sometimes employed round, rectangular or square shapes, I always went back to the ellipse, especially after verifying that the canvas moves better if shaped by an ellipse rather than by a circle. The ellipse exerts its pressure gently and appears a little asymmetric.. a circle is harder, because it is round. The ellipse is sweet, instead, and I sort of fell in love with it."
