PLANT SO ANIMAL. (Plants and animals). OIL ON CANVAS SIGNED. 1928. 61 x 50 cm, framed. Oil on canvas dated and signed on the front by Victor Brauner inspired by the poems published in 1929 in Paris (Imprimerie Union) by his friend and fellow Romanian Ilarie Voronca. The origin of this painting was inspired by the verses of Voronca which include the wild cat, the owl, and the snake, main elements in the composition of the painting. Throughout his work, the wild cat, the owl and the snake appear constantly. Initially this painting was to serve as a frontispiece to illustrate the book by Voronca who chose to illustrate Plante si animale with three drawings by Constantin Brancusi, one of which is offered under number 114 of this catalog.
