Depicting a vase of flowers on a table, this subject matter was increasingly popular in Utrillo’s oeuvre towards the end of his life. This particular work was exhibited in the XXV Venice Biennale in 1950.</p> <p> </p> <p>Painted in 1950, this oil on board is signed and measures 33 ½ x 25 ½ inches. Otherwise appears in basic good condition.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Maurice Utrillo (French, 1883-1955)</strong></p> <p>Born in Paris, Utrillo grew up in Montmartre with his mother, Suzanne Valadon who worked as an artist’s model including Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec before becoming an artist herself. Under her guidance, Utrillo began to paint and gain wide critical acclaim. Best known for his city scenes and landscapes, his most famous works depict his Montmartre neighborhood. Since his death in 1955, several retrospectives have taken place worldwide. His work can be found in the collections of the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, among many other institutions.</p> <p><i>Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.</i>
