This work "Ecriture NO.891024" is one of the "Ecriture" series. In the monochrome line drawing and Korean paper (Korean traditional paper) carding stage, through making the surface relief of material etc., shows the special quality of “ECRITURE” series, this artist representative style has been started to produce since 1967. Park Seo-bo was born in Yecheon of Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea in 1931. He played a pioneering role in the development of modernist formalism and abstract art in Korean contemporary art, and led the transition in the history of Korean contemporary art. He went to Paris in 1961 after graduated from the department of Fine Arts in Hongik University in 1954. Park Seo-bo ‘s life in Paris has a great influence on his artistic tendency. He changed his own style from art informel to monochrome line art and a unique style that emphasizes the texture of Korean paper. His works were exhibited in the 8th Sao Paulo Biennale in 1965. After “ECRITURE” series works published, it attracted the attention from oversea. He won the national medal in 1984, held a large-scale retrospective exhibition in National Gallery of Modern Art of Seoul in 1998 etc., and is highly regarded as the Korean modern art artist. Park Seo-bo is also known as the father of the monochromatic painting "Dansaekhwa" that appeared in Korea in the early 1970s. Dansaekhwa is a painting characterized by minimal beauty and delicate brushstroke. It was actively introduced in Japan from the 1970s to the 90s, and the painters who were responsible for the development of Dansaekhwa between Japan and Korea also communicated with each other actively. In recent years, the large-scale exhibition of monochromatic paintings was held in Venice in 2015, and its reevaluation has progressed rapidly in recent years. Among them, Dansaekhwa has been attracting attention as a global boom. Park Seo-bo is the core artist of Dansaekhwa, his works have both tranquility and sophistication, which is acquired during he explored his own Korea's unique identity after influenced by Western culture, and also raise the simple and profound question of "what is expression?" 'My work is [...] related to the oriental tradition of space, the spiritual concept of space. I am more interested in space from the point of view of nature. Even though my paintings may represent an idea about culture, the main focus is based on nature [...] I want to reduce the idea and emotion in my work to express only that.
