For the Mexican ‘Escuela Libre de Agricultura “Emiliano Zapata”", Tina Modotti showcased the newly developed, resistant corn varieties, which were intended to improve the situation of the rural population. The corn plant thus became a symbol of the revolutionary peasant movement in Mexico in the 1920s.
Condition report: Matte heavy paper. Blacklight tested, no fluorescence. With handling marks. Below the centre of the image a whitish zone (approx. 6 x 2 cm), presumably scratch marks in the negative. Two yellowish traces of moisture, approx. 1.5 cm and 1 cm in size. Two small areas of craquelure above the centre of the image. Upper left edge with vertical crease, approx. 6 cm long. Lower right corner with crease, approx. 2 cm long, as well as small losses of the gelatine layer. Further minor creases and hairline cracks. Recto and verso with foxing in places, the reverse with traces of soiling.
