The artist, Mary (Molly) L. Adams, New York, Thence by descent to the current owner, On September Fourth, 1998, Mary (Molly) L. Adams passed away two days after her seventy-third birthday. She left behind no children, but her nieces and nephews were enriched by her caring guidance down the many splendid paths of the New York art world. Molly Adams was born in Cedarhurst, New York. She graduated from Smith College, then served in the Foreign Intelligence Agency in Washington D.C. during the Second World War. After the war ended, she moved to New York and settled at 101 Saint Marks Place, and began a career as an actress, where she would remain for the rest of her life. As a fixture in the downtown New York arts scene, Molly met many artists. Larry Rivers became a friend, as did Nell Blaine, Willem de Kooning, Michael Goldberg, and Robert Goodnough. Offered in this auction are two of the works from her collection.
