Bernd & Hilla Becher (Bernd Becher(1931-2007), Hilla Becher (1934-2015)): A duo of photographers working as a collaboration of German concept artists. From photographs, installations, sculptures and works are diverse, but their representations go beyond traditional definitions. Notable are photographic images of industrial buildings and structures, often organized in grids, as well as a series of conceptual art in typology (typology, formalism). Since 1976, he has influenced the generation of documentary photographers and artists (1970s) as the founder of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts. The typology of Mr. and Mrs. Becher, with repeated photographs of the façade of similar buildings, is a magnificent work that combines elements of documentary and conceptual art. From a completely objective point of view with respect to the subject, using a minimalist expression method, we find paradoxical differences by repeating homogeneous things. Since the end of the 1950s, in Germany and other Western countries, some water towers, blast furnaces, mining furnaces, silos, etc. and the residential buildings in industrial area have been destined to disappear due to the rationalization of industry. Photos are in cloudy day when the subject was evenly lit, they created a flat image that did not emphasize the form, perspective, or story of the subject. Then, by collecting those photographs for each motif and showing them side by side on the grid, a document of the times and history is constructed in a form different from the "photo story" represented by "Life" magazine. Their objective and systematic production style has been highly regarded in the context of minimal art and conceptual art since the 1960s, and in 1990 received an award in the sculpture category of the Venice Biennale.
