Earl Horter (1880-1940) was an accomplished artist who amassed a renowned art collection which provided artists in his circle with inspiration from European Modernist, Surrealist, African, and Native American art. His collection also included American artists whom he knew personally, including Charles Sheeler (1883-1965), Charles DeMuth (1883-1935), Arthur B. Carles (1882-1952), his wife Helen Lloyd (1903-1981), and Leon Kelly (1901-1982), the latter two were married in 1941. Roethel 167.
