Sniffen, Antonio Jacobsen's Painted Ships on Painted Oceans, Mariners' Museum, Newport News, Virginia, 1994, p. 84-5, illustrates a 1910 version of this vessel.~~The steel twin-screw passenger liner Brazos was owned by the Mallory Steamship Company of South Street, New York, and built for them by the Newport News Shipbuilding Company in Virginia. Launched in 1907, she was registered in New York at 6,223 tons gross (3,980 net) and measured 401 feet in length with a 54 foot beam. Engined by her builders, she had a service speed of 16 knots and enjoyed a successful career running scheduled services to Texas for her original owners. Sold to the New York & Porto Rico Steamship Company some time before World War One, she was renamed San Lorenzo in 1926 but scrapped in 1934 thanks to the downturn in business due to the Depression.
