Fortuna with pennant standing on winged globe and the Spiers from Canaan. One barrel, with traces of later silvering, is stamped PLBML. Ø 48.5-49 cm.
The barrel is in turned, driven and punched brass sheet with iron wire reinforced edge. On one dish, the goddess of fortune, Fortuna, is depicted standing on a winged globe. She holds a patterned pennant (sail) which is bowed by the wind over her head. Luck is unpredictable and she is carried in the direction the wind blows. The globe is flanked by two running deer and around her grow leaf and flower tendrils. The wide brim is decorated with a wavy vine with bunches of grapes and large lobed leaves. On the other plate, Joshua and Caleb are shown carrying a large bunch of grapes. Two of the twelve spies who explored the land of Canaan (Numbers, chapter 13). The board is decorated with pointed oval dents.
