FRANCIS PICABIA (1879-1953)
"I find that there is something for everyone. There are people who don"t like machines: I offer them Spanish ones. If they didn"t like Spanish ones, I"ll make them French ones... "Francis Picabia A Spanish woman appears, more beautiful than ever, standing frozen in front of us. Francis Picabia repeats this image, never quite the same, of a strangely aesthetic and seductive figure. Present and transparent at the same time, animated and lifeless, she stares at us fixedly and our gaze cannot tear ourselves away from hers. This face still fascinates as much and like an obsession, both in the transparencies and in the portraits of Spanish women, the face fades and transforms like the memory of the loved one.
