Günther FORG (1952-2013)
O.T., 1995 Acrylic on canvas. H: 120 cm W: 100 cm This work is registered in the archives under the reference Nr. GF 9/997. Günther Förg"s paintings question the parameters of modernity confronted with the wear and tear of time. His abstract paintings frequently take up the signs of the great American abstract painters of the 1950s which he interprets freely."Förg"s artistic concept is characterized by speed and definite action. He works in series and picture sequences and, since his early orientation toward Twombly and Palermo during his time at the Munich Academy, he has continuously expanded his artistic catchment area. Förg does not quote, but uses his work more like memories of and references to a modernity whose artifacts are pulled out of the stream of forgetting by means of his rough and open working processes. By means of his tenacious antiformalism, they allow a fresh and sympathetic view by the beholder." Eckhard Schneider, in the exhibition catalog Förg, Kunsthaus Bergenz
