[JS]. •Nolde"s exotic color lithographs from the year 1913 are among his most sought-after works within his print art œuvre. • Just as it is the case with the "Tänzerin" (Dancer, 1913) and the color lithograph "Junges Paar" (Young Couple, 1913), Nolde also rendered an exotic and erotic female type in " Russin " (Russian Woman, 1913). • Rare. To date only three copies of this large-size color lithograph have been offered on the international auction market (source: artprice.com). • A copy of the " Russin " used to be part of the important expressionist collection of Carl Hagemann, which today is part of the collection of the Städel Museum, Frankfurt a. M. • Nolde was fascinated - just as the other "Brücke" artists - by the art and culture of primitive people and took part in a South Seas expedition in 1913/14. • The expedition started in Berlin and reached Moscow on October 5, 1913, where Nolde might have met the model for the present color lithograph. • With her straight black hair, almond-shaped eyes and the red lips, Nolde"s " Russin " shows parallels to the mysterious lady depicted in the painting "Nadja" (1919) .
