In the 1920s, Joaquín Torres-García began his journey through New York, Italy, Barcelona and Paris, a period of great artistic wealth where he surrounded himself with artists who held painting gatherings every night. In 1926, he exhibited in different galleries and his art began to be recognized, selling everything he produced. In 1934 he returned to Uruguay with the ideal of promoting the art of his nation, founding the Association of Constructive Art. In 1942 he formed the Taller Torres-García, an exclusive workshop for collective work and teaching where he gave painting classes to young artists, forging a Latin school with its own identity.
His work was characterized by a moderate chromatic range and a modernist style brushstroke. However, after his arrival in Paris, he began to integrate geometric abstraction, which developed the rest of his artistic production. Today, Torres-García is considered one of the protagonists of the development of Latin American modern art.
