Louis de France, dauphin (1661 - 1711) known as the Grand Dauphin He is depicted in front of the siege of Philisbourg in 1688, the staff of command with fleur-de-lis in his right hand, his left hand resting on a helmet decorated with a fleur-de-lis. Across his chest the blue ribbon of the Order of the Holy Spirit. Oil on canvas (missing parts and small tears on the right) H. 114 cm - W. 144 cm Resumption of the composition painted by Rigaud in 1697 in collaboration with Joseph Parrocel for the scene in the background of the siege of Philisbourg, preserved in Madrid at the Prado Museum. A repetition of the same dimensions belongs to the Palace of Versailles (Cf. Claire Constans, Musée National du Château de Versailles, Les Peintures, volume II, MV 2085. n° 427, p.757. - RMN 1995)
