Will be included in volume 4 of the catalogue raisonné being prepared by Denise Bazetoux. The painting we are presenting is a preparatory work for the painting reproduced in the catalogue raisonné under no. 93, page 29 of volume 2 under the title "Eragny, Rodo Pissarro in his father"s garden" 1895. At the end of the summer of 1894, Maximilien Luce was invited by his friend Camille Pissarro to Eragny, the master"s property. Luce made many stays there where the paintings of this period are characterized by luminous canvases populated with children, women and characters. Our painting represents the son of Camille Pissarro, himself a painter (1878 - 1952), a subject that Luce would paint several times. It was in Eragny that Camille Pissarro tried to divert Luce from neo-impressionism, making our painter alternate between impressionist and divisionist paintings for this period.
