Rare Peacock table lamp with Turtleback base
USA, c. 1900
leaded glass, Favrile glass, patinated bronze
21½ h × 16¼ dia in (55 × 41 cm)
The shade has rich red-brown patina to leading on both interior and exterior, interior with a few pieces showing small gaps around a few tiles, gaps not visible from the exterior. There are two areas with old adhesive stabilization repair visible under blacklight. Dichroic striated glass appears to be consistent throughout with no evidence of replacement, approximately 10 tiles with tight hairlines, no missing glass. The base has a dark brown patina overall with minor wear to high relief areas and a few old, light scratches on the canister near the support arms. Turtleback tiles appear green with multi-colored iridescent surfaces, two tiles with small separation in the leading. Base is finished with three matching General Electric sockets with G.E. Co. paddle switches, all functional when tested. Base is rewired through the font riser with contemporary cloth cord. Overall very good condition. A highly naturalistic lamp that, when viewed firsthand, displays an artistic and rich glass selection
