This work is entitled "PORTRAIT DE JEUNE FEMME EN BLEU / PORTRAIT OF A LADY WEARING BLUE DRESS" by VU Cao Dam, who is one of the representative artists of 20th century Vietnamese painting. This painting shows that a lady who wearing a traditional Vietnamese costume “Ao Dai” in female form. Although the subject of the drawing is Asian, the main character of shape and dessin skill was similar to western painting techniques. In addition, he did not make use of shadows or shading on this painting. However his technique of drawing on the flat surface let exotic colors standing out more than the weight of its weight feeling of material. The blue dress and woman's red finger nails have a very beautiful contrast on the color tone. His favorite motifs were portraits and scenes mostly depicting his compatriots in Vietnamese traditional clothing. His lines are elongated, the colors are subtle and the silhouettes are delicate and graceful. The works of Vu Cao Dam are full of gentleness and poetry. Vu Cao Dam was born in 1908 in Hanoi, Vietnam. He entered the Indochina School of Fine Arts in 1926, where he studied painting, drawing and sculpture until 1931. During the first ten years of his career, he mainly worked in sculpture, which is how he became famous.
