Established in Barcelona in 1963, the Museo Picasso's complete collection comprises 4,249 of Picasso's work in all media from different periods, but with particular emphasis on works from his formative years and youth. The Museo Picasso also features the extraordinary Las Meninas series as well as works from his Blue Period. At the artist's request, his imprint on art was to be left in Barcelona, revealing the deep relationship he had with the city of his youth. The Museum itself is made up of five Catalan, Gothic style palazzos dating from the 13th and 14th centuries in Barcelona's La Ribera .
The set of 5 signed offset color lithographs, known as the Barcelona Suite , was commissioned in honor of Picasso's 85th birthday. Aside from the large poster edition of 2,000 unsigned impressions with the added text, 60 signed and numbered impressions as well as a handful of proof impressions before the text were also published by the Museo Picasso in 1966.
